1. The Q4 Storage Rate in One Line
Amazon charges monthly storage by cubic foot. For standard-size items in 2026, that's $0.78 per cubic foot from January through September and $2.40 per cubic foot from October through December.
Oversize items go from $0.56 to $1.40 per cubic foot over the same months. The rates come from Amazon's monthly storage fee page in Seller Central.
The jump starts October 1, so anything that hasn't sold by then costs you the higher rate for every month it sits through December.
2. The Math on a Real Shipment
Say you send 200 small units at 0.05 cubic feet each. That's 10 cubic feet of storage.
- January to September: 10 x $0.78 = $7.80 a month
- October to December: 10 x $2.40 = $24.00 a month
Per unit, that's about 4 cents a month most of the year and 12 cents a month in Q4. Small numbers on a fast seller. On a slow one that sits all three months, those cents add up on every unit, before the surcharges below.
"Now, when it's peak season from October to December, fees pretty much tripled, right? So, for this year's fees, storage fees actually tripled. So you want to make sure that you do not sit in inventory for too long during these times, right?"

3. The Storage Utilization Surcharge
Amazon adds a storage utilization surcharge only when your storage utilization ratio sits above 22 weeks, and only on inventory aged 30 days or more.
The ratio compares the space your inventory takes up to how fast it sells. If you buy deep before Q4 and sales lag, the ratio climbs. Keep an eye on it in Seller Central through October and November.
4. Aged Inventory Surcharges Stack on Top
Aged inventory surcharges start at 181 days and climb with age. Amazon takes a snapshot on the 15th of each month and charges them on top of monthly storage.
The bands for units 181 to 270 days old run $0.50, $1.00 and $1.50 per cubic foot (clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and watches skip those three bands). At 271 to 300 days, the rate jumps to $5.45 per cubic foot. A unit you bought in January that's still sitting in October pays the Q4 storage rate plus one of those bands.
Clear old stock before October. Submit a removal or disposal order by 11:59 pm PT on the 14th and you avoid that month's surcharge on those units.
5. Peak Fulfillment Fees Rise Too
Storage isn't the only fee that moves. Amazon's peak fulfillment fees run from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027.
For small standard items priced $10 to $50, the fulfillment fee goes from $3.32 to $3.96 in non-peak to $3.51 to $4.18 during peak, depending on weight. A 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge has applied since April 17, 2026.
Rerun your profit on every Q4 buy with peak fees, not the numbers from your summer buys. The holiday peak fulfillment fee guide has the full table.
6. Capacity Limits Decide How Much You Can Send
Amazon sets a monthly capacity limit in cubic feet for each storage type, like standard and oversize. It sets the limit in the third week of each month and shows estimates up to three months ahead.
IPI is one input, along with your sales forecast, lead time and fulfillment center space. A strong score helps, but no score removes the limit. Raise your IPI score anyway, since slow inventory drags it down.
Need more room for Q4? Request it in Capacity Manager by bidding a reservation fee per cubic foot. The highest bids get space first, you pay nothing upfront, and performance credits can offset up to 100% of the fee. The capacity limit increase guide covers the bidding.
7. The Low-Inventory-Level Fee Pulls the Other Way
Sending too little costs money too. Amazon charges a low-inventory-level fee when both your 90-day and 30-day historical days of supply fall below 28 days.
Since January 15, 2026, Amazon measures it per seller FNSKU, and it now covers Small Bulky and Large Bulky items. Grocery is exempt. So Q4 planning means enough stock to clear the 28-day line, not so much that it sits into the aged bands.
The low-inventory-level fee guide has the rate tiers and every exemption.
8. Holiday Arrival Dates
Amazon released its 2026 holiday calendar in early July. For Black Friday and Cyber Monday, inventory should arrive by October 14 for AWD, October 21 for FBA minimal split shipments and October 28 for Amazon-optimized splits.
The calendar lists no Christmas cutoff. Our own guidance: aim for FBA arrival by November 20 and treat December 1 as the last call. The guide to sending inventory for the holidays walks through the timeline.
9. How Much to Send for Q4
The winning Q4 shipment sells through before January. Speed matters more than depth.
"So, it's really really good if like during Q4 you can flip your inventory in two weeks. But if in Q3 you it takes you like 90 days to flip the like the average item in your inventory, that's why your business does not grow. That's why you're stuck."

Size each buy against the units your share of the listing will sell by mid-December, using rank history from Keepa. The how many units to buy guide lays out the formula, and Keepa Q4 price prediction helps you avoid buying into a price drop.
10. Your Pre-Q4 Storage Checklist

- Submit removals by the 14th so they skip that month's surcharge
- Check your capacity estimate for October through December

"So what does your inventory turnover looks like? So when you spend $1 into the business, how long does it take you to turn it into like $1.60 or $1.40 to $1.60 in your case cuz that was your return on investment. You need to be turned every 30 days."
$0 to $4 Million With Amazon FBA: The Complete Strategy
Inventory that turns in 30 days pays the Q4 storage rate for a few weeks at most and sells long before 181 days. Track your sell-through rate weekly from September on.
