1. The Short Answer

If you sell on Amazon, use Keepa. If you shop on Amazon and want a price-drop alert, CamelCamelCamel does the job for free.

Both tools track Amazon price history. The difference is everything around the price. A sourcing decision needs sales rank, offer counts and buy box history, and Keepa puts those on the same chart as the price. That's the data that tells you whether a product sells, how many sellers you're splitting it with and whether the price holds.

I'll walk through what each tool shows, where CamelCamelCamel still earns a bookmark and how I use Keepa in a normal sourcing day. I left plan prices out on purpose. Both vendors change them, so check keepa.com and camelcamelcamel.com for current pricing.

2. What CamelCamelCamel Does

CamelCamelCamel is a free Amazon price tracker. Every product page gets a price history chart, with separate lines for Amazon's own price and for third-party new and used offers, plus the high, low and average over time.

Its main feature is the price alert. You pick a product, set a target price for Amazon or third-party offers and get an email when the price hits it. That's what shoppers use it for: waiting for a TV or a blender to drop before they buy.

For a quick look at whether a product's price swings, it's fine. It costs nothing and loads fast.

3. What Keepa Does

Keepa started as a price tracker too, and it still does price history and price alerts. On top of that, it charts sales rank, buy box price, offer counts and reviews over time, so you can line up the price against how fast the product sells and how many sellers are on it.

The browser extension drops the Keepa chart right onto the Amazon product page, so you see the history without leaving the listing. Keepa also has Product Finder for filtering Amazon's catalog, seller lookups for storefront research and an API for developers.

The seller features sit behind Keepa's paid subscription. The free tier gives you basic price history. Sales rank history, buy box data and Product Finder need the paid plan, and those are the features OA sellers pay for. The Keepa Chrome extension tutorial covers the setup.

4. The Data a Seller Needs

Price history alone can't tell you if a product sells. A product can hold a steady $30 price for a year and sell twice a month. Before I buy, I need answers to these:

  • How often does it sell? (sales rank drops on the chart)
  • How many FBA sellers are on it, and is that number climbing?
  • Does Amazon sell it, and who holds the buy box?
  • Does the buy box price hold, or does it tank every time new sellers arrive?

Keepa answers all four on one chart. I don't use CamelCamelCamel for any of them. If you're new to the chart, start with how to read Keepa graphs and then what a good BSR looks like for OA.

5. Sorting by Sales Speed

Keepa's data tab lets you sort and filter products in ways a price chart can't. That's what makes it fast for storefront work.

"The reason why I use Keepa instead of SellerAmp to do storefront stalking is because with Keepa it's really really easy to actually sort all the products based on how fast they sell. And it's way easier to load all the products because SellerAmp will load the same products over and over again."

What's the BEST Amazon FBA Sourcing Strategy for Beginners?

Sort a seller's products by sales rank, open the fast movers first and skip the rest. You get through a storefront in minutes instead of an hour. CamelCamelCamel has no equivalent, because it's built around single products and alerts, not lists.

6. Seasonality Shows Up in the Sales Rank

A 12-month Keepa chart shows you when a product sells. A price chart alone hides it.

"So, stuff like this is stuff that is similar that sells a lot during Christmas, but that does not sell most of the year, like for the rest of the year."

The Last Keepa Tutorial You Will Ever Need

Read the sales rank line across the full year. A seasonal product shows a spike and then a flat line. If you're buying in August for that spike, you need inventory in place before it starts and you need to sell out before storage costs pile up. Aged inventory surcharges start at 181 days, so a seasonal miss costs you real money. The Q4 version of this is in using Keepa to predict Q4 prices.

7. Storefront Stalking Runs on Keepa

Keepa's seller lookup lets you pull a competitor's full catalog and sort it. That's the core of storefront stalking and reverse sourcing.

"Let's get into the most efficient storefront stalking method for Amazon FBA if you are doing online arbitrage in 2025. Personally, the best software that I like to use to do storefront stalking is Keepa."

How I Find Amazon Products That Make Money Fast!

Manual stalking takes time, because you have to keep checking the same storefronts for new products. I built Arbitrage Stalker to send an alert when a tracked seller adds something, so factor in that I make a tool in this space. Keepa stays in my workflow either way for the chart on every product. The full method is in reverse sourcing on Amazon.

8. Product Finder Filters the Catalog

Product Finder lets you filter Amazon's catalog by sales rank, price, seller count, whether Amazon sells it and dozens of other fields. You can build a list of products that match your rules before you look at a single retailer.

"If you do not understand what the Keepa product finder is, it's a tool that allows you to filter the database of product on Amazon pretty much, right? And so I'm going to filter the database of products for gap products that Amazon is not selling, right?"

The Exact System I Use to Find Winning Arbitrage Products on Amazon

CamelCamelCamel is built around single products and alerts, so it has nothing like this sourcing filter. If you plan to source from catalog filters, this feature alone justifies Keepa's paid plan. A deeper walkthrough is in finding profitable OA products.

9. Where CamelCamelCamel Still Helps

CamelCamelCamel still has a place. Use it when you want a free second opinion on a price history, or when you're tracking a product you plan to buy from Amazon itself.

Some sellers flip Amazon's own deals: they buy from Amazon during a price drop and sell later at the normal price. A free price-drop alert works for that, as long as you've checked sales rank and seller count in Keepa first.

It's also a decent way to show a friend or family member why a price chart matters before they spend money on Keepa. Once you sell your first few products, you'll outgrow it.

10. Cost: Free Versus Paid

CamelCamelCamel is free. Keepa has a free tier for basic price history and a paid subscription for the seller data. I won't quote Keepa's price here because it changes; check the subscription page on keepa.com before you sign up.

Judge the cost against one bad buy. A single product bought without checking sales rank and seller count can lose you more than a year of Keepa. Treat the subscription as part of your cost of doing business, the same as your scanner or your label printer.

If cash is tight, read starting OA with $500 for how to fit tools into a small budget. Keepa is the one tool I'd keep if I had to cut everything else.

11. My Pick for Sellers

Keepa wins for anyone selling on Amazon. It answers the questions a buy decision needs: velocity, competition, buy box and seasonality. CamelCamelCamel answers one: price.

Use them like this:

  • Keepa extension on every product page, every sourcing session
  • Keepa seller lookup and Product Finder for building lead lists
  • CamelCamelCamel alerts only for Amazon-to-Amazon flips, after a Keepa check

If you want to see how I read a Keepa chart on a live product and decide in under a minute, join the free Thursday class. Pair Keepa with a profit tool like SellerAmp and you have the core of an OA research stack.
