1. What Is an MCP Server?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI apps to outside software. An MCP server is the piece a software company runs so Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can call its tools and read its data.

Think of it as a USB-C port for AI. One plug shape, and any app that supports it can connect to any server that offers it.

For you as a seller, that means you stop pasting screenshots into a chat window. You ask "which of my leads are worth buying today?" and the assistant pulls the answer from the tool that holds your leads.

2. The Three Pieces: App, Server, Tools

Every MCP setup has three parts, and once you see them the jargon goes away.

  • The app. Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Cursor. You type into it.
  • The server. A web address a software company hosts, like https://app.arbitragestalker.com/mcp. You add it to the app once.
  • The tools. Named actions the server exposes, such as "look up a product", "calculate profit" or "check eligibility". The model picks which tool to call based on your question.

The model never logs into anything. It asks the server to run a tool, the server runs it under your account's permissions, and the result comes back into the chat.

3. What an MCP Can Do for an Amazon Seller

The value comes from the data behind the server. A sourcing server answers sourcing questions. An ads server answers ads questions. Some jobs that work today:

  • Pull the new products your tracked competitor storefronts added since yesterday
  • Run profit and ROI on a product at your buy cost, using your saved prep and inbound costs
  • Check a list of up to 100 ASINs against your own account to see what you can sell, what needs approval and what to skip
  • Pull campaign reports and budgets from Amazon Ads
  • Read listings, inventory and sales numbers from your Seller Central account (Amazon's own plugin, in beta)

That covers most of the grunt work in an online arbitrage day: finding leads, checking numbers and knowing what you're allowed to list.

4. What It Cannot Do

An MCP server can only do what its tools allow. If a server has no "buy" tool, the assistant can't buy anything. If it has no Seller Central access, it can't see your account. Read the tool list before you assume anything.

The model also stays a language model. Ask a bare chatbot for FBA fees and it will guess referral rates and size tiers, and a few dollars of error wipes out the margin on an arbitrage deal. A good sourcing server runs the profit math through its own calculator and hands the model the result. Learn the fee structure yourself anyway with the FBA fees breakdown, so you can spot a wrong answer.

And it can't replace judgment. It will tell you a product shows 38% ROI. You still decide whether a 90-day price chart full of spikes is worth the risk.

5. Why I Care About This as a Seller

"In the last two to three weeks, I've been working a lot to automate a lot of part of my Amazon FBA online arbitrage business with AI. While a lot of Amazon gurus run ads and say, 'Hey, I'm going to teach you how to run an Amazon FBA business with AI.' And the only AI thing they had is just a profit calculator. I actually spent the last few weeks building a lot of automations with OpenClaw."

AI Just Killed Online Arbitrage (Here's What FBA Sellers Need Now)

A profit calculator with a chat box on top doesn't count as AI for your business. The useful version reads your leads, your sellers and your costs, then does the boring checks for you.

MCP is the plumbing that makes that possible without writing code. If you already run online arbitrage automation with scripts and spreadsheets, MCP lets you ask for the same things in plain English.

6. Who Offers an MCP Server for Sellers in 2026

A year ago this list was empty. Now:

  • Amazon Ads MCP Server. Amazon opened the beta on February 2, 2026 after a closed beta in November 2025 (Amazon Ads announcement). It connects Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or custom agents to campaigns, reporting, budgets, account settings and billing data. You need Amazon Ads API access.
  • SP-API developer MCP. Amazon posted a local MCP for developers on May 28, 2026 (SP-API samples discussion #382). It searches docs, explores endpoints and generates code. Live calls need your own SP-API client ID, secret and refresh token. Built for developers.
  • Amazon Selling Partner plugin. Announced at Accelerate in September 2026, live in Amazon Quick and in beta with Claude for US stores (About Amazon). It reads your listings, inventory and sales, and takes actions you approve.
  • Helium 10 MCP. Launched July 2026 for keyword research, ads, rank tracking, profitability and inventory (Helium 10). Helium 10's own pages disagree on which plan you need, so check yours.
  • Jungle Scout, SmartScout, Keepa. Jungle Scout's official MCP is reportedly enterprise-only. SmartScout markets one for competitive intel. Keepa has no official MCP; community servers call the Keepa API with your own key and spend your tokens.
  • Arbitrage Stalker. A sourcing MCP for resellers, with sign-in for claude.ai and ChatGPT since October 21, 2026.

Most of these serve brand owners: ads, keywords, your own listings. Resellers sourcing other people's products need different data.

7. Where Arbitrage Stalker Fits

I built Arbitrage Stalker, so weigh this section with that in mind. It tracks competitor storefronts and surfaces what those sellers add, and the Arbitrage Stalker MCP server puts all of that inside Claude or ChatGPT.

The tools cover the reseller loop: the lead feed from your tracked sellers, product lookups, profit at your buy cost, where to source a product, eligibility checks on up to 100 ASINs, brand-wide eligibility, UPC matching and wholesale list uploads. It works on every paid plan, and most tools cost nothing to call.

It never submits an ungating request. It hands you Amazon's approval link instead, because failed attempts count against you. More on that in the ungating guide. For the setup side, the companion post on the Amazon seller MCP server walks through every tool.

8. Try One in 5 Minutes

No code needed if you use claude.ai. With Arbitrage Stalker as the example:

  1. Open claude.ai, go to Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Click Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it, paste https://app.arbitragestalker.com/mcp as the URL and click Continue, then Add.
  4. Click Connect, sign in on the page that opens and click Allow.
  5. Start a chat and ask "how many sellers am I tracking?"

No key to copy. The connector shows up in the Claude desktop and phone apps too. ChatGPT works through Plugins, then Add custom MCP server, with the same address. ChatGPT moves its menus between releases, so look for "custom MCP server" if the label changed.

9. Good First Questions to Ask

Ask it the questions you'd ask a sourcing VA sitting in front of your dashboard:

  • "What did my sellers add since yesterday?"
  • "Is this worth buying at $12?" with an ASIN
  • "Score this list" with 50 ASINs from a supplier sheet
  • "Check every Carter's product and tell me which ones I can sell"
  • "Where do I source this?"

In one live run, the Carter's check came back as a single brand gate: 19 of 19 sampled products needed approval. IKEA came back mixed, with 2 sellable, 17 needing approval and 1 to skip out of 20. That's the kind of answer that saves you an afternoon of clicking.

10. The Risks Worth Knowing

Connecting AI to your business data is safe when you do it through the front door. Keep these rules:

  • Never give an AI tool your Seller Central password. Use the official sign-in flows and approval screens.
  • Read the Allow page. It lists what the app can do. Arbitrage Stalker's says it can read your data, check eligibility, save products, manage monitors when you ask and spend credits. It can't touch your password, billing or Seller Central.
  • Treat connection keys like passwords. Anyone holding one can read your leads and spend your credits. Revoke a key the moment you think it leaked.
  • Watch write access. An ads server that can change budgets can also change them wrong. Keep approvals on.

"You have to treat it that way. You have to know your numbers. If you don't know your numbers, you won't be successful in any business."

An assistant that reads your numbers helps you know them faster. It doesn't excuse you from knowing them. Run a few answers against the ROI formula by hand in your first week.

11. MCP Next to Your Current Tools

MCP doesn't replace your stack. You'll still open Keepa charts (the Keepa extension tutorial covers that) and you'll still use a scanner like SellerAmp on the product page.

The change is where the busywork happens. Pulling 40 new storefront finds, screening out the ones with Amazon on the listing and checking eligibility on the rest used to be a VA task. Now you ask for it in one message and review the shortlist.

"What I expect is that by the end of this year around 75 to 80% of my business will be 100% automated by AI. I will still have VAs, but since my VAs will have to work less, like the input cost for everything that I need to do will be cheaper. It's not like they're going to be replaced 100% by AI."

If you run a team, the VA sourcing training guide still applies. Your VA reviews what the assistant surfaces instead of hunting from scratch.
