1. Amazon Released an Official SP-API MCP Server

On May 28, 2026, Amazon announced a local MCP server for the Selling Partner API in discussion #382 of the selling-partner-api-samples repo. It ships on npm as @amazon-sp-api-release/sp-api-dev-mcp.

SP-API is the programmatic side of Seller Central. Repricers, inventory tools and most seller software talk to your account through it. An MCP server on top of it lets an AI coding assistant like Claude Code read the SP-API docs, explore endpoints and make calls.

If MCP is a new term, what an MCP server is covers the basics.

2. The Two Servers in the Package

Amazon's package includes two servers.

The dev assistant server is for building. It has docs search, an endpoint explorer, an sp_api_execute tool for making calls, code samples and a migration helper.

The second is a workflow server. Amazon's discussion thread lists what it covers today. Check it before you set anything up, since Amazon can add tools to both servers.

3. Who the SP-API MCP Server Is For

Developers. Amazon built this to help people write SP-API integrations faster: look up an endpoint, see a code sample, test a call, fix the error, repeat.

If you write code for your own seller account, or you build tools for other sellers, it saves you a lot of tab-switching through API docs. If you've never opened a terminal, this isn't your starting point. Skip ahead to the no-code options below.

4. What You Need Before You Install It

Live calls to your selling account need all of this:

  • A registered SP-API developer app
  • Login with Amazon (LWA) credentials: the app's client ID and client secret
  • A refresh token that authorizes the app on your selling account
  • Node 20 or newer on the machine running the server

Follow the setup steps in Amazon's discussion post and the npm page. Don't copy config from a random blog, since the package is new and the setup may change between versions.

5. Treat Those Credentials Like Your Bank Login

A refresh token plus a client secret can act on your selling account through the API. Keep them out of shared docs, chat logs and public repos.

When you run this in Claude Code, the assistant can make real calls with real credentials. Read what it plans to run before you approve, especially anything that writes data. Our post on connecting AI to Seller Central safely covers permissions and revoking access.

"So whenever I get a new VA, right? By the way, right now you can do so much stuff just with AI, right? If you look into OpenClaw, like Claude Code, all these things, right?"

Tools like Claude Code do a lot. Give them access the way you'd give a new VA access: limited at first, widened once they've earned it.

6. Community SP-API MCP Servers

You'll also find community-built SP-API MCP servers on GitHub. They're unofficial, and they ask for the same LWA credentials and refresh token.

Some are well made. Some are weekend projects. If you use one, read the code, check how it stores your credentials, and check whether anyone still maintains it. Amazon's official package is the safer default for most developers now that it exists.

7. If You Don't Code: Amazon's Selling Partner Plugin

For sellers who want AI on their account without writing code, Amazon announced the Selling Partner plugin at Amazon Accelerate in September 2026. It launches in Amazon Quick and in beta with Claude, US stores first.

Per Amazon, it connects your listings, real-time performance, inventory and sales analytics. It can take actions with your approval and keeps an audit trail. Amazon says connecting takes about 60 seconds with no code. Primary account holders get 12 months of Amazon Quick Plus free through December 31, 2026.

Third-party reviews say it reportedly doesn't cover Ads or margin data. The full rundown is in the Selling Partner plugin breakdown.

8. SP-API Covers Your Account, Not the Market

Whether you go through the dev MCP or the plugin, you're looking at your own selling account. Your listings, your orders, your inventory.

An online arbitrage seller's day is mostly about other people's data: what competitors added to their storefronts, which of those products you're allowed to sell, and what the profit is at the price you'd pay. SP-API wasn't built for that.

That's the job I built the Arbitrage Stalker MCP server for. It connects Claude or ChatGPT to the storefronts you track, checks up to 100 ASINs against your own account at once, and runs profit through the app's calculator with your saved prep and inbound costs. It never touches Seller Central, your password or your billing, and it doesn't submit ungating requests. It hands you Amazon's approval link instead.

9. Building Your Own Seller Automations

If you're the developer type, combining tools is where this gets fun. Claude Code can hold the SP-API dev MCP and a sourcing MCP at the same time, so one script can read your inventory through SP-API and pull sourcing data from somewhere else.

"In the last two to three weeks, I've been working a lot to automate a lot of part of my Amazon FBA online arbitrage business with AI. While a lot of Amazon gurus run ads and say, 'Hey, I'm going to teach you how to run an Amazon FBA business with AI,' the only AI thing they had is just a profit calculator."

10. Picking Your Route

  • You write code and want to build on your own account's data: Amazon's SP-API dev MCP.
  • You want AI on your account with no code: the Selling Partner plugin in Amazon Quick or Claude.
  • You want help with ads: the Amazon Ads MCP Server, covered in the Amazon Ads MCP guide.
  • You want help finding products to buy: a sourcing MCP.

Most arbitrage sellers start with the last one, because sourcing is where the hours go. To watch how I source with these tools, sign up for the free Thursday training.

11. My Take on the SP-API MCP Server

It's a good release for developers. Amazon putting docs search, an endpoint explorer and live calls behind one MCP server cuts out a lot of the pain of building on SP-API.

It isn't a seller tool, and Amazon doesn't pitch it as one. If you sell and don't code, the Selling Partner plugin is Amazon's answer for you. If you source, you'll want data on the market, not only on your own account. The best AI tools for Amazon FBA roundup lays out the options side by side.
