1. The Short Answer

If you want Amazon's own Selling Partner plugin, use Claude. Amazon launched the plugin in Amazon Quick and in beta with Claude, and ChatGPT isn't on that list yet.

For third-party seller tools, pick either one. Arbitrage Stalker, Helium 10 and the Amazon Ads MCP Server all work in both apps.

This post sticks to differences you can verify. No benchmark scores, no "which model is smarter" takes. Those change every few months and don't tell you which app connects to your data.

2. Both Apps Speak MCP Now

MCP is the standard that lets an AI app call outside tools, like your sourcing software or your ads account. If that's new, read what an MCP server is first.

Claude calls these connections connectors. You add them under Settings, then Connectors, and they carry over to the Claude desktop and phone apps.

ChatGPT adds them as plugins built from a custom MCP server. Once added, you pick the plugin from the + menu in a chat before you ask. Both use the same sign-in-and-Allow flow, so neither app ever sees your password.

3. Amazon Picked Claude for Its Plugin Beta

Amazon announced the Selling Partner plugin at Accelerate in September 2026. It launches first in Amazon Quick and in beta with Anthropic's Claude, for sellers in US stores (About Amazon).

The plugin connects listings, real-time performance, inventory and sales analytics, and it can take actions after you approve them, with an audit trail. Amazon says more integrations are planned and does not name ChatGPT among them.

Full breakdown in the Selling Partner plugin guide. For a US seller who wants Seller Central data in a chat today, that alone decides it.

4. Seller Assistant Runs on Claude Models

Amazon's Seller Assistant, the AI built into Seller Central, runs on Amazon Bedrock with Anthropic's Claude models, per the same Amazon announcement. Amazon says Seller Assistant's memory of your business carries across Seller Central, Amazon Quick and Claude.

None of that makes Claude better at sourcing. It tells you where Amazon put its own integration work first.

5. Setting Up a Seller Tool in Claude

With Arbitrage Stalker as the example, on claude.ai:

  1. Settings, then Connectors, then Add, then Add custom connector.
  2. Name it, paste https://app.arbitragestalker.com/mcp and click Continue, then Add.
  3. Click Connect, sign in on the page that opens and click Allow.
  4. In a chat, check the tools menu shows it switched on, then ask "how many sellers am I tracking?"

No key to copy. The connector appears in the desktop and phone apps with no extra setup.

6. Setting Up a Seller Tool in ChatGPT

  1. Click Plugins in the left bar, then Add, then Add custom MCP server.
  2. Name it and paste https://app.arbitragestalker.com/mcp under Connection. Leave Authentication on OAuth.
  3. Tick "I understand and want to continue", then Create as a plugin.
  4. Click Connect, sign in and click Allow.
  5. In a new chat, click + and choose the plugin before you ask.

ChatGPT moves these menus between releases. If a label changed, look for custom MCP servers or connectors and use the same server address. The full ChatGPT walkthrough lives in ChatGPT for Amazon sellers.

7. Claude Code and Cursor for Builders

If you write scripts, Claude Code (Anthropic's terminal tool) and Cursor connect with a key instead of a sign-in. In Arbitrage Stalker you create one under AI Connection Keys. It starts with as_mcp_ and shows once.

Claude Code takes one command:

claude mcp add --transport http arbitrage-stalker https://app.arbitragestalker.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer as_mcp_YOUR_KEY_HERE"

Keys work like passwords. Anyone holding one can read your leads and spend your credits, so keep them out of shared docs and revoke any key you think leaked.

8. Third-Party Seller Tools Work in Both

  • Amazon Ads MCP Server (open beta since February 2, 2026): Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or custom agents. Needs Amazon Ads API access.
  • Helium 10 MCP (launched July 2026): Claude, Claude Code, Cursor and ChatGPT. Helium 10's launch post and help center list different plans, so check yours.
  • Arbitrage Stalker MCP: Claude (web, desktop, phone), ChatGPT, Claude Code and Cursor.

For tools like these, your choice of app comes down to which one you already pay for and like using. The Arbitrage Stalker MCP page lists every sourcing tool you get in either one.

9. Neither One Should Do Your Fee Math

Claude and ChatGPT share the same weak spot: ask either one for FBA fees with no tool connected and it guesses. Referral rates, size tiers and closing fees are where a model drifts by a few dollars, and that's the whole margin on an arbitrage deal.

A connected tool fixes that by running the math through its own calculator. Arbitrage Stalker's profit answers go through the same calculator as its dashboard and Chrome extension. Learn the fee structure yourself in FBA fees explained so you can catch a bad number.

"Let me show you a quick trick. You're just going to get into ChatGPT. And you're going to take this and boom, you're going to ask them, hey, output all the seller IDs separated by a space for the sellers that have less than five reviews. Okay, let's do this."

That's the kind of job a bare chatbot does well in either app: reshaping text you already have. Numbers that decide a purchase come from a tool.

10. Which to Pick for Which Job

  • Seller Central data in a chat (US): Claude, because Amazon's plugin beta runs there.
  • Sourcing (storefronts, leads, eligibility, profit): either app with a sourcing MCP connected.
  • Ads management: either app with the Amazon Ads MCP Server or Helium 10.
  • Scripts and scheduled jobs: Claude Code or Cursor with a connection key.
  • Text chores (supplier emails, list cleanup, brainstorming brands): either app, no connection needed.

If you already pay for ChatGPT and you're not chasing Amazon's plugin, stay put and add your tools there. Switching apps buys you nothing for third-party tools.

11. Running Both

You can keep both. Nothing stops you from connecting the same sourcing server to Claude and ChatGPT, and each connection shows up as its own entry you can revoke on its own.

"So whenever I get a new VA, right? By the way, right now you can do so much stuff just with AI, right? If you look into OpenClaw like Claude Code all these things, right?"

12. Next Steps

The app matters less than the data you connect to it. These five posts cover that side:
