1. Using ChatGPT for Amazon FBA Without Getting Burned
I use AI in my Amazon business every day. I also watch sellers paste an ASIN into ChatGPT, ask "is this profitable?", and buy inventory off the answer. That second habit costs money.
ChatGPT works with words. Give it a messy draft, a pile of notes or a report you don't understand, and it does good work fast. Ask it for a number it has to remember, like an FBA fee or a 2026 Amazon rule, and it fills the gap with something that sounds right.
This post splits the jobs into two piles. The good pile is stuff you can hand over today. The bad pile is stuff you keep away from a chat window until you connect it to real data. If you're new to the idea of connecting data, start with what an MCP server is, then come back.
2. Good Job: First Drafts of Listing Copy
Most arbitrage sellers list on pages that already exist, so you won't write many listings. When you do, say a bundle, an FBM item or a private label test, ChatGPT gets you a first draft in a minute.
Feed it the facts: product dimensions, materials, what's in the box, who buys it. Ask for a title, five bullets and a description. Then edit. The model will add claims you can't back up, like "premium quality" or a feature the product doesn't have. Cut those before anything goes live.
Treat the draft like a VA's first pass. Useful, fast, and it needs your eyes before it ships.
3. Good Job: Supplier and Brand Emails
Writing to a brand for an authorization letter or asking a wholesale supplier for a price list feels awkward for a lot of new sellers. ChatGPT removes the blank page.
Tell it who you are, what you sell, what you want and how formal the email should sound. Ask for two versions, one short and one longer. Pick the one that sounds like you and rewrite the parts that don't.
Keep the facts yours. Your company name, your volume, your store link. Don't let the model guess at any of it. If you're working toward brand approvals, pair this with the restricted brand approval guide.
4. Good Job: Appeal Outlines You Then Rewrite
An Amazon appeal needs structure: what happened, why it happened, what you changed, how you'll prevent it. ChatGPT is good at structure. Give it your notes and ask for an outline in that order.
Then you write the appeal. You know what happened in your account and the model doesn't. A generic appeal full of stock phrases won't help you, and an invented detail can hurt you.
Read the suspended account appeal guide before you send anything. Use the AI outline as a checklist, nothing more.
5. Good Job: SOPs for You and Your VA
Record yourself doing a task, paste the transcript into ChatGPT and ask for a numbered SOP. You get a clean document out of a rambling explanation, which is most of the work of writing an SOP.
I like this for sourcing steps, shipment prep and repricer checks. Have your VA run the SOP once and mark every step that confused them. Fix those lines and you have a document that holds up.
The full VA side of this lives in the Amazon FBA VA training guide.
6. Good Job: Explaining Reports and Cleaning Up Data
Paste a column header you don't understand from a settlement report and ask what it means. Paste a messy seller list and ask it to pull out the IDs. This is grunt work, and ChatGPT does it well because you gave it the data.
"Let me show you a quick trick. You're just going to get into ChatGPT. And you're going to take this and boom, you're going to ask them, hey, output all the seller IDs separated by a space for the sellers that have less than five reviews."

That trick works because the seller list sits right there in the chat. ChatGPT isn't remembering anything. It's sorting what you pasted. Hold on to that for the rest of this post.
7. Good Job: Brainstorming, Then Checking With Data
ChatGPT is a fine brainstorm partner for brand ideas going into a season.
"Just get into ChatGPT and just ask, 'What are super popular toy brands I should look into selling on Amazon during Q4?' It's going to give you a couple of brands."

A brand list is a starting point. You still check eligibility, pull the price history and run the numbers on each product before a dollar moves. The Q4 sourcing guide covers what to do with that list once you have it.
8. Bad Job: FBA Fee Math From Memory
Referral rates, FBA size tiers and closing fees are where a chat model guesses. A guess that's off by a couple of dollars per unit is the whole margin on a lot of arbitrage deals.
The model doesn't know your product's exact dimensions, the current fee table or your prep and inbound costs. It produces a clean-looking breakdown anyway. Clean formatting makes a wrong number more convincing.
"You have to treat it that way. You have to know your numbers."

Get fees from a calculator that pulls Amazon's real numbers. Learn what each fee is in Amazon FBA fees explained, then run products through the FBA calculator and check your return with the ROI formula.
9. Bad Job: "Is This Product Profitable?" With No Data
Profit on an arbitrage buy depends on the current buy box, how many sellers sit on the listing, the sales rank trend, whether Amazon sells it, and your buy cost. A chat model with no live data has none of that.
Ask anyway and you get a confident paragraph about "strong demand" and "healthy margins." None of it comes from the listing you're looking at.
Read the price and rank history yourself before you buy. The Keepa graphs tutorial shows you what to look at, and the BSR guide helps you judge velocity.

Reserve My Free Seat →10. Bad Job: Amazon Policy From Memory
A language model learns from data that stops at some date. Amazon changed a lot of rules in 2026, so a model's memory of "how FBA works" can be a year or more out of date.
A few examples of what changed. Amazon stopped US FBA prep and item labeling on January 1, 2026, so you label your own units or pay a prep center. Amazon ended commingling on March 31, 2026, and every arbitrage seller now puts an FNSKU on every unit. Capacity limits replaced restock limits back in 2023, and no IPI score gets you unlimited storage.
A chat answer that tells you otherwise is working off old training data. Check policy against Seller Central or a source with a date on it, like our 2026 Amazon FBA changes breakdown.
11. Connecting a Data Source Changes the Answer
Every bad job above fails for one reason: the model has no data. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard that lets ChatGPT or Claude call a tool and get real numbers back instead of guessing.
That's why I built the Arbitrage Stalker MCP server. You connect it to ChatGPT and ask "is this worth buying at $12?" The answer runs through the app's profit calculator, with your saved prep and inbound costs. The model writes the explanation. The app does the math.
In ChatGPT, the setup goes Plugins, Add, Add custom MCP server. Paste https://app.arbitragestalker.com/mcp, leave authentication on OAuth, tick the "I understand" box, click Create as a plugin, then Connect and Allow. In a new chat, click + and pick Arbitrage Stalker. ChatGPT moves these menus between releases, so look for "custom MCP server" if a label changed. The full walkthrough is in ChatGPT for Amazon sellers with MCP.
The Allow page lists what it can do: read your sellers, leads and product data, check what your account can sell, and spend credits at app prices. It can't touch your password, billing or Seller Central. Before you connect any tool, read is it safe to connect AI to Seller Central.
12. The Rule I Use: Words in Chat, Numbers From Data
My split is simple. If the job is words (drafts, emails, outlines, SOPs, explanations), ChatGPT on its own is fine. If the job is a number or a rule, the number has to come from a tool connected to real data, or from you.
Comparing assistants? Claude vs ChatGPT for Amazon sellers covers where each one fits, and the best AI tools for Amazon FBA lists the tools worth paying for.
